Yoga Marketing: Five Things You Are Doing WRONG

Attracting new yoga students to your studio, private yoga sessions, workshops, and events is hard work! But I’m here to help you stop making these rookie yoga marketing mistakes!

πŸ‘ŽYour Newsletter Is The Only Email You Send To Your Yoga Students

To expand your yoga community, email marketing is the key. But you have to use it wisely. So listen up!

The number one email sequence you should have in place is a welcome series. 

You don’t ignore a new student when they come and introduce themselves, do you? I thought not! A welcome series is just a student wandering over to your mat to say hi and make sure you know they are there! (Except in digital form!) Maybe you hand out a newsletter sign up sheet during your classes, or you offer a promo on your website, these “lead magnets” attract you student, but now what?

That’s where an email welcome series comes in. It’s there to nurture your new relationship and encourage your students to your classes, workshops, and other yoga opportunities. The problem with reaching out to every new student is that it takes a lot of time. You may find yourself repeating the same few emails, so why not automate it? 

Automating Your Emails 

Here’s the best part, after adding an email to your list, an email system will automatically send new students your pre-written email sequence. All you have to do is write the emails. It seems easy enough, right? 

These systems are called automations.

Automations: The ability to send time or action triggered emails or email sequences following the addition of a subscriber to your list.

Writing Your Yoga Marketing Emails

Writing these emails can be challenging. They need to be both compelling and nurturing while also offering real value. (These emails may differ slightly depending on their entrance to your list and your offer, such as a push to sign up for a private yoga session versus an upgraded package or membership)

  • Delivery. (Deliver whatever you promised, whether it’s something like all of the promos for all of the studios you teach at with your schedule or your intro offer for your studio)
  • Follow up. Encourage them to do something with the delivery item – You could make a PS offer (maybe an upgrade of some kind or a product recommendation)
  • Value Add Email. Offer them free info like a blog post that you think they would find valuable or a PDF they can print that will be useful
  • Answer All Questions (What do I need for my first class, injuries, training, etc.)
  • Now’s the time email (CTA) – create scarcity and nudge them to purchase the upgraded offer or other item you are encouraging them to buy

πŸ‘ŽYou Don’t Have A Social Media Marketing Plan

Are you posting daily and responding to your students on social media, but you have zero plan. So you haphazardly post things such as your schedule, inspirational quotes, workshops, and other random things you come across? 

Although those are great fillers, there is a better way. 

Social Media Helps You Build Your Audience

Social media isn’t there to encourage sign up to all of your events and classes. It’s there to build an audience and push people to your email list. 

You need to become the trusted source for all yoga for your audience. Concentrate on building their passion for both your product (you or your studio) and yoga in general. Offer value every single day! Even if it’s just a shared blog post from Yoga Journal.

Automate Your Social Media

I recommend setting up a buffer account and planning your social media schedule for the entire month. You want to offer value, so sharing articles that support something special you will be offering ignites the passion for signing up. Let’s take marketing a workshop, for example.

What is the crucial thing that your students will receive from that specific workshop? From there, convince them by proving videos, blog posts, and testimonials that will push them to sign up. After being inundated with say Chakra info (for a chakra workshop), they will know what it is (first goal) and understand the value it provides (second goal).

A Quick Reminder About Facebook Business Pages

You have to pay to play. In the past, Facebook Business pages were integrated with the Facebook feed easily, but that isn’t true anymore. 

Yes, a few posts will make it into your student’s feed, but there will be less than what is needed. That’s why email marketing and running effective Facebook ads are so important.

πŸ‘Ž Your website is not set up to entice new yoga students

Just setting up a website is hard, but your website is a student’s first impression of your business. That is why it is so important. Take the time to do it right or hire an expert. 

Homepage

Your homepage should be pushing potential students to sign up for your offer or your email list. How do you do that? Offer them something of value, either your promo or a free guide. 

If you are only offering sign-ups to your newsletter or schedule, you are missing out! 

 There are two types of website visitors

  1. People who have never done yoga
  2. People who are looking for a studio and have at least some experience with yoga

That’s why you should have two options

  1. A lead magnet that offers new students value and helps push them to show up (think free guide, checklists, and video content)
  2. A promo offer 

And of course, you need a prominent place for your schedule for quick access for current students, but honestly, that is secondary to getting new students.

A potential student has zero investment in a product that is free and is substantially less likely to use the product. 

Make them invest in something with an expiration date, so they feel compelled to show up! Even if it’s for pennies on the dollar.
